Quick post, for anyone who was curious about the Northwest Submission Challenge, it was definitely a success. Tons of competitors, Divisions, and well organized.  Happy to be a part of it.  Thanks Guys.

Word of the Day – PRESSURE

I was looking back at some of my old BJJ Videos and realized that my personal flavor of Grappling doesnt typically include the kinds of pressure on top that are necessary to dominate using tournament rules.  Allowing a grappling partner roll into your guard is not a problem at practice, but in competition they get points.  I’m going to change this part of my game starting this evening.   Happy Jitz to you.

Looking forward to grappling this week!

I’m really looking forward to grappling this week.  I’m hoping to compete in the Northwest Submission Challenge on the 25th, of April and desperately need to get some mat time in.  It is always fun to see what you have versus people that train full time. (but it would be so much more fun to win a few)  Anyhow, I think the rule changes will be a nice addition as well, ie. Jumping Guard not being scored as a take down if the opponent isn’t moving forward, as well as matches being the customary 5 minutes for the intermediate folks, and not 8.  I don’t remember being able to go 8 minutes in high school wrestling….
